Levels – Dutch speaking and listening skills

Level A1

  • You can introduce yourself.
  • You can understand short and clear sentences with lots of repetition.
  • You speak slowly and with mistakes.
  • You can participate in our conversatietafels.

Level A2

  • You can have short conversations.
  • You can give basic information about yourself and your surroundings.
  • You can understand clear sentences about familiar topics.
  • You speak slowly.

Level B1

  • You can give your opinion on a familiar topic.
  • You can have a simple conversation.
  • You can understand the basic ideas in a clear presentation.
  • Your speech rate is pretty smooth.
  • You can participate in oefenkans taalpraktijk.

Level B2

  • You can understand the news on TV.
  • You can explain a problem and can have a conversation in order to find a solution.
  • You can articulate arguments in a multi-person discussion.
  • Your speech rate is normal.
  • You can start studying in higher education.
  • You can start the training to become a public service interpreter.

Level C1

  • You can understand a debate without a clear structure.
  • You can understand a lecture on an unfamiliar subject.
  • You can discuss complex topics.
  • Your speech rate is normal.
  • Dutch feels almost like a second mother tongue to you.

Levels – Dutch reading and writing skills

Level A1

  • You can write single words and short sentences.
  • You can fill in your details on simple forms.
  • You can read easy, short sentences.

Level A2

  • You can write short sentences using easy words.
  • You can write a short message or card.
  • You can read a short job vacancy or simple text.

Level B1

  • You can write a simple cover letter or internship report.
  • You can read a structured text on a familiar topic.

Level B2

  • You can write a detailed report.
  • You can articulate your opinion and give arguments and a conclusion.
  • You can read complex articles on topics that are related to your own experiences.
  • You can understand details in a contract or formal business letters.
  • You can start studying in higher education.
  • You can start the training to become a public service interpreter.

Level C1

  • You can write well-structured texts on complex topics.
  • You can take detailed notes during lectures and presentations.
  • You can understand long and complex texts on specific topics (even if you are not familiar with the topic).
